Korean Lesson: How to Read the 받침

안녕~~! Look at the title.. what is 받침 [patchim] ? Ever heard it somewhere before? Yes 받침 is the consonant below the letter *in Indonesian, it means huruf bawah*. Okay.. let see..

Korean Consonants:
ㄱ = k / g
ㄴ = n
ㄷ = t / d
ㄹ = r
ㅁ = m
ㅂ = p / b
ㅅ = s
ㅇ = ng
ㅈ = c / j
ㅊ = ch
ㅋ = kh
ㅌ = th
ㅍ = ph
ㅎ = h
ㄲ = kk
ㄸ = tt
ㅃ = pp
ㅆ = ss
ㅉ = jj

So, if these consonants are the 받침, then..
ㄱ, ㅋ, ㄲ = k
ㄴ = n
ㄷ, ㅌ, ㄸ, ㅅ, ㅈ, ㅊ, ㅎ, = t
ㄹ = l
ㅁ = m
ㅂ, ㅍ, = b
ㅇ = ng

There are also 받침 which have two consonants like ㅄ, ㄺ, ㄶ and so on. How to read them? It is easy! just read the first consonant (example: 읽 = i'l'). The second consonant will read when the next word is vocal (example: 읽어요 = i'l'k'oyo). If the next word isn't vocal, it will read as l. See what I mean? If you have any question, just comment below this post. 감사합니다~!

*Vocabulary:
받침 = the consonant below the letter
읽다 = reading
감사합니다 = Thank you
안녕 = Hello
